Associate Director: Esther Emery
Esther Emery is a holistic artist dedicated to the vitalization of the human
experience through art. Previously directed for Stone Soup: Love’s Fire. Other
directing credits include Limonade Tous les Jours (Moxie Theatre); Chrysalis:
Rapechild (self-produced in association with Sledgehammer Theatre), Hecuba
(6th@Penn), Soul Fire (Playwrights Project for Stories of Faith); Cool as We Fly
(Ruff Yeager); several productions for Playwrights Project Plays by Young
Writers, and several productions for the Fritz Blitz of New Plays. Her production
of Chrysalis: Rapechild was the recipient of three KPBS Patté awards for
excellence in Direction, Lighting Design (Jennifer Setlow) and Sound Design
(Paul Peterson). Esther is a proud member of the San Diego Actors Alliance and
has served on the Fritz Theatre Board of Directors. Her training includes a B.F.A.
in Theatre Arts from the University of Idaho, intermittent study at Pacific
Northwest Ballet, Eveoke Dance, and in the presence of the inspiring arts teachers
Kathryn Irey (Stage 7) and Deborah Salzer (Playwright’s Project), as well as a
self-guided pursuit of the function of art in society.
